In 2024, I began a new sculptural series titled Uri (meaning ‘we’ in Korean), which brings my coloured clay compositions into three-dimensional form. The series originates from the experience of becoming a mother, which revealed how contradictory emotions—warmth, belonging, and closeness, alongside loneliness, disappointment, and distance—can coexist within a single bond. These emotional tensions form the conceptual ground for the work, extending beyond motherhood into wider human relationships. The sculptures stand, lean, or touch, and are experienced through their physical presence and proximity, shaping quiet relationships within space.
The Uri series is formed through a coiling process using blended pigmented clays. As the structure grows, subtle and unpredictable patterns emerge. Each work carries traces of accumulation, reflecting proximity, balance, and relational presence.
